It’s a powerful and meaningful American First Nations tale which brings us the story of a wise Cherokee elder who was teaching his grandson about life.
“There is a war going on inside me,” said the elder.
“It is a war between the 2 wolves. 1 wolf is evil. He is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, inferiority, resentment, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other wolf is good. He is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.”
Then the elder placed a hand on his grandson’s shoulder and stated that, “This same war is also raging inside you, as it is in every man, woman, and child.”
The young man was thoughtful for a moment before asking, “Which wolf will win?”
The elder responded; “The one that you feed!”
At its core, the story teaches us that our thoughts, emotions and actions shape our reality. It highlights the power of our daily choices and encourages us to be mindful of the wolves we choose to feed.
