Almost all of us are familiar with the ever-decreasing amount of personalisation and human interaction in our daily lives.

Most banking is performed online, as is booking of travel and holidays, while more than 65% of supermarket customers choose the self-serve checkouts for their grocery purchases.

 It’s a brave, new world.

While researching and compiling content for a forthcoming resource guide to assist managers and people leaders with the onboarding process of new hires, it struck me that there were almost no resources or information focused on the Reboarding of existing employees or team members (i.e., returning to work after a break). After all, they should know all the important information, policies, and processes associated with their role.

So, with the holiday season upon us, we’ve compiled some tips for the experienced and established employee to hit the ground running upon their return from a little R & R – whatever form that may take.

Reboarding Tips.

Set Appointments: Prior to any break/vacation, be sure to set up your first 1-2 weeks back with meaningful appointments or projects to help get you back into the zone from Day 1. (Nobody – including you – benefits from hearing you tell them how hard it is to get back into the work routine after your holiday).

Lunch/Coffee: Upon returning to work, schedule an informal catch-up with a colleague or team member to share what’s been going on. Be sure to share stories and anecdotes from your time away.

‘Welcome Back’: Create a fun sign or post it note for your desk welcoming you back to the office. Maybe include some treats to kickstart your first day back.

Revisit/Reset Goals: Effective goal setting encourages the review and re-assessment of progress on any previously set goals. Ideally, your time away from the workplace has recharged your batteries, allowing you to have a fresh perspective on previously drafted goals.

Get Tickets! The Get Tickets motto is a reminder that you shouldn’t be waiting 12 months to enjoy your next break. Book tickets for movies, sporting events, dinner dates, or weekends away that you can plan and schedule into your calendar for the year ahead. (It’s about balance).
